Play Videos in Google Docs

Google Docs has recently added a very useful and much awaited feature: users can now play uploaded videos. This allows you to play videos just like any other online video, like those on YouTube.

To test this latest feature, upload any video to your Google Docs account. After successful upload, you can open it just like other supported file formats. Moreover, you can change Sharing Settings of your videos to share them with selected friends, or even make them public. Here is a sample ‘public’ video. Unfortunately, there is no direct way to embed public videos.

There are certain limitations also, like:

  • Uploaded video files can be up to 1 GB. Only common video formats can be uploaded and played including WebM, MPEG4, 3GPP and MOV files, AVI, MPEGPS (MPEG2 video codec and MP2 audio), WMV, FLV (Adobe – FLV1 video codec, MP3 audio).
  • The maximum resolution for playback is 1920×1080.

Users can view all uploaded videos by visiting docs.google.com/#videos.  [ via Google Operating System ]
